Program Development and Management

For some major customers, Baseline Sustainability manages their entire sustainability program. This includes the coordination of internal stakeholder and program oversight teams and committees, identification and analysis of potential carbon footprint reduction and other sustainability measures, management of sustainability measure implementation, and analysis and measurement of the results achieved. We can also produce your annual and quarterly corporate sustainability reports, sustainability program presentations and case studies for you to use to communicate your environmental profile, progress and current sustainability initiatives to both internal and external stakeholders.

Carbon Footprint Accounting

graphUsing custom web-based software and systems, Baseline Sustainability can calculate and analyze the total carbon footprint of your organization’s facilities and operating activities quickly and accurately. The computational basis used for our carbon inventory and accounting work is the GHG Protocol, which underpins and meets the requirements of both the US EPA and Chicago Climate Exchange Board. Baseline Sustainability’s carbon accounting software tools are also consistent with the UK’s Environment Agency v.2 Carbon Calculator, in order to meet the requirements of our European clients. This tool, like the GHG Protocol, is based on the requirements of the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development (WBCSD)

Baseline Sustainability makes customer’s carbon accounting results available to customers two ways. The first is via a dedicated customer SharePoint website hosted on our SharePoint facility, with graphing, drill down, and “what-if” tools available at this site. The information at this site is also available in downloadable master Excel spreadsheet form, with built-in grouping and pivot table features that allow easy access to full and partial views of all data and to summary line and column totals.

Baseline Sustainability reports also include two additional sets of features. The first are “constant E-Grid factor “ and constant consumption year-over-year analysis that allows customers to see the change in carbon footprint for their facilities, divisions, and company with E-Grid factors held constant and with Scope 1 and Scope 2 usage held constant. This allows Baseline Sustainability’s customers to see how much or little progress they have made reducing their carbon footprint and how much or little externalities in their electricity supply are causing their carbon footprint to grow or shrink. The second is what we call “headroom analysis”, which shows individual facility up through total company carbon footprints with the lowest possible carbon electricity and fuel choices reasonably available. For example, this could include using bilateral contracts for wind power where available instead of grid mix power. Again this allows our customers to quickly determine the level of opportunity for carbon reduction available from simply contracting for electricity from greener sources where such options are available, or from switching heating fuel types where fuel switching is an option (for example, from oil-fired or gas-fired furnaces to heat-reclaim-based electric heat pumps in locations with nuclear or hydro-based electric utilities with low E-Grid factors).

ductworkBaseline Sustainability is not only able to work with our customers to identify ideas for projects to reduce their impact on the environment but is also able to engineer, construction manage, and commission those projects during their implementation. Baseline also has a state of the art remote monitoring center in our Shanghai offices that allows us to offer our customers the option of having their new projects monitored on a continuing basis after startup and commissioning, to make sure all environmental and commercial goals and benefits are achieved. This sets us apart from many other companies working in sustainability services areas. These implementation services are provided by Baseline Services, another division of Baseline Sustainability’s US parent company.
